As everyone knows Austin, Texas is the live music capitol of the world. Music fans everywhere are converging on Austin and gearing up for ACL over the next two weekends. The large crowds and influx of music fans over the course of the next two weekends are sure to lead to an increased police presence in the city. Austin Police Department are likely to be on the lookout for any signs of alcohol-related crimes, such as Public Intoxication (PI) or Driving While Intoxicated (DWI).
In order to stay safe and protect your rights this weekend, here are some tips you should remember:
1. If stopped by police, be polite and courteous. Provide identification if asked.
2. Refuse all Field Sobriety Tests, Breath Tests, or Blood Tests.
3. Remember that you are likely being recorded, so everything you say and do could be played back to a jury if you are later tried for PI or DWI.
Police only need reasonable suspicion to stop you and probable cause to arrest you, but the State must prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt to convict you. Just because you have been arrested, does not mean your life is over. If you find yourself in trouble this weekend, give us a call at (210) 960-9557. We’re available 24/7 to help you.
Stay safe this weekend and enjoy Austin’s biggest live music festival!
